Jonathan Bii Chelilim who is commonly known as Koti Moja is the current and the second governor of Uasin Gishu County. Chelilim won the August 9, 2022 elections under UDA ticket and became the governor defeating his competitor Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki.
Early Life and Education
Chelilim was born and grew up in Chemororch village in the Soy sub-county, he enrolled in his early education at Kapsumbeiywet primary and later sat for his CPE in 1985 at Kipsombe primary. He joined Arnesense secondary school for his secondary education and completed it in 1989. He later joined Sigalagal National Polytechnic after his secondary education where he graduated with a diploma in information science. Years later he enrolled at Shalom Bible College and Seminary where he pursued a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Divinity, Majoring in Counseling. Between the years 2014 to 2020, he embarked on a journey to enroll for his master’s degree at Kisii University where he did a master in project planning and management. Immediately after his master’s degree he enrolled for a Ph.D. where he graduated with a Ph.D. in project planning management at the same Kisii University.
Career and Political journey.
Chelilim was formerly employed at Moi University after his diploma course int year 1996, Department of Information Science where he served up to the onset of his political journey in 2007. He started at the library department, but because of his exceptional interactive skills, which the university administration noticed immediately, Chelilim was promoted to the office of the dean of students. At that point, he enrolled in his first counseling degree program in an attempt to grow his mentoring and interpersonal and interactive skills.
Chelilim while he was the dean of students founded an impactful generation program known as MOI ACADEMIC OUTREACH Where his main aim was to preach the significance of going back to school mainly university to study. Courtesy of his mentorship so many school dropouts who attended his mentorship meetings began going back to school.
Political Journey
Bii political career began in 2007 when he vied for the Eldoret North with his main competitor William Ruto, who was an ODM candidate at the time of the elections. Chelilim himself was using a KANU ticket to run. Though he performed quite well, he was not able to defeat Ruto. After the results were publicly announced, Chelilim withdrew to his house, dusted himself up, and promised himself to get well.
The steadfast, unflappable, and always-happy Bio returned to the ring in 2017 to square off against Caleb Kositany. He just missed, but not before pointing out electoral misbehavior. He promised himself that a time would come for him to do remarkably well when his competitor prodded him to seek legal action he said he couldn’t cry over spilt milk.
DP William Ruto attended an interdenominational fundraiser in 2018, where Bii shocked both friends and enemies by declaring that he had ditched KANU to join the Jubilee Party. Jonathan Bii stated that like a prodigal son in the bible, I am returning home he added that he had been lost and confused in the political desert for years at a time. He asked if he was welcomed back and his reaction was jubilant. The moment leaders moved forward to greet him “home,” there was a stampede. The DP warmly greeted Jonathan Bii and assured him that he would support him now that he was home.
In the year 2022 chili vied for a gubernatorial seat under the UDA ticket, winning the elections against his competitor Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki. Chelilim gernerd 214,036 , Buzeki came second with 127013. Buzeki was not hesitant to congratulate him on his victory, Buzeki requested him to address the development issues affecting Uasin Gishu residents.
